Diesel Engine Fire Pump Controller

Nebras diesel engine controller type NPM/NFPA20-D8 has been designed in accordance with the latest requirements of NFPA20 standard for automatic and manual starting of diesel engine driven pumps.

The components are installed in an enclosure having an ingress protection rated at IP: 55.

Automatic start procedure:

When pressure transmitter receives low pressure signal from pressure line, it sends a signal to the P.L.C and therefore starts the engine, providing automatic/ manual S.W is in automatic position and also no engine running signal has been sent.

Automatic starting cycle is as follows:

–  The starter motor is activated for 15 seconds by battery (A).

–  If engine fails to start, the starter motor receives no voltage for 15 seconds and the engine does not crank.

– After 15 seconds, the starter motor receives voltage from battery (B) and cranks the engine for 15 seconds.

–  If engine does not start, the above procedure will be repeated for 6 times.

Manual start procedure:

Manual starting is carried out by putting the (M.A.) S.W in (M) position. Then it is possible to start the engine manually by means of manual start (A) or (B) which are press push button type switches.

Control signals:

Whenever one of the batteries is disconnected or its voltage drops, the warning light of battery failure (A or B) will be illuminated along with display message and turning on a siren.

Engine failed to start signal light:

When 6 times engine start cycle fails to start the engine, this signal light will be illuminated along with display message and turning on a siren.

Engine over speed signal light:

In case engine R.P.M increases above a pre-determined value according to the NFPA20 standard (20% above rated R.P.M) the engine ECU or speed S.W sends a signal to the P.L.C and the engine stops. This signal light is illuminated along with display message and turning on a siren.

Engine low oil pressure signal light:

When the oil pressure of the engine is lower than the permitted value (while the engine is running), this signal light will be illuminated along with display message and turning on a siren.

Engine high water temperature signal light:

When the water temperature of the engine is higher than the permitted value (while the engine is running), this signal light will be illuminated along with display message and turning on a siren.

Fuel level low alarm control signal light:

When the fuel level is lower than the pre-defined value in the fuel tank,  this signal light will be illuminated along with display message and turning on a siren.

Remote signal contacts:

These dry contacts are used for transferring remote signals to the control room. The signals used in the controller are as follows:

– Battery chargers or battery failed

–  Engine failed to start

–  Engine over speed

–  Engine low oil pressure

–  Engine high water temperature

– Low fuel level in the fuel tank

All signals will be shown in the control room as a general fault.
